Graham Napier says the prospect of playing in a Lord’s final can be the perfect incentive for Essex when they take on Warwickshire in their Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-final.

The Colchester-born all-rounder believes the carrot of playing at the home of cricket can spur the Eagles on to victory in today’s day/night clash at Chelmsford (2pm start).

Essex head into the clash seeking revenge on their opponents, who ran out winners when the two clubs met in the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final earlier this month.

But Napier, 34, says the chance to play in a showpiece final at Lord’s should be enough motivation alone for Essex when they take to the field, this afternoon.

Napier said: “There’s a day out at Lord’s to aim for and playing in a One-Day Final there is the ultimate for any domestic player.

“They don’t come along very often in a career and there’s a great atmosphere among the players.

“You want to be competing in these games at this stage of the season and it’s as important as any game we’ve had, so far.

“We’re at the quarter-final stage now and it’s a do-or-die part of the season.

“We know that we have to win to keep our One-Day season going.

“We want to be in the final and there’s no incentive better than playing at Lord’s.”
