ICE HOCKEY: Chelmsford Chieftains defenceman Alex Green has agreed to continue at the Riverside for the 2012/13 season as head coach Gary Clarke looks to keep the stability and core of the team together.
Following the signings of Ben Clements and Danny Hammond, Alex Green has been a Chieftains stalwart for the past three seasons and barring a short spell at Romford Raiders and away from the game, has only ever pulled on the Chieftains jersey.
Clarke said: “I am very pleased to have Alex back again this coming year.
“He is without doubt one of the best defencemen in the league and played a huge role in helping us lift silverwear last year.
“He is a perfect stay-at-home D man, someone who is tough to beat one on one whether that be in front of the net or in the corners.
“He turns up to play every night no matter who the opposition is and plays with a lot of pride in his own zone.
“But not only that – Alex offensively makes great passes to the forwards and also plays an important role on the powerplay.
“Alex is Chieftains through and through and off the ice he plays an influential part too and is a player that I expect the younger guys to look to and a player I expect to play more of a senior role this year.
“I am convinced the Chieftains faithful will be as pleased as I am about his return.”
More signings are expected to be announced in the next couple of weeks, as well as news of major sponsors getting on board.
