SCOTT Fenwick continued his superb start to life in Chelmsford City colours with a hat-trick of penalties as Rod Stringer’s men returned to the play-off positions.

The Clarets saw off Whitehawk at Melbourne Park on Monday to ensure a 4-2 win and climb (at the time of press) into fourth place in the National League South.

Chelmsford had raced into a 2-0 lead against the division’s second bottom side with the first goal coming after just four minutes.

Michael Spillane scored for the second consecutive match, with his volley from a corner finding its way into the corner of the net.

And it was shortly followed by a second goal. A penalty was awarded to the hosts and Fenwick sent a low shot past the goalkeeper.

But the deficit was halved on 25 minutes. A ball dropped to Nathaniel Pinney in the penalty area and he hammered beyond Sam Beasant.

Whitehawk were buoyed and netted a second five minutes later. A counter-attack was not properly dealt with and Gold Omotayo thrashed the ball into the corner of the net.

Chelmsford piled on the pressure in search of the winner, Fenwick coming closest.

However a red card for the Hawks’ Osa Obamwonyi 10 minutes into the second half handed the initiative back to the Clarets.

Fenwick converted a second penalty with 15 minutes remaining before completing his treble from the spot in injury-time.

And Fenwick made no mistake to claim the match ball.
