CHELMSFORD City FC brought an end to their recent troubles to end the Ridley League season on a high note as they were crowned double champions.

A 12-3 win over neighbours Red Beret clinched the Combined Trophy after a three-year interval.

And they were to add their first Dominoes League crown shortly afterwards, finishing the season unbeaten with victory over Little Waltham SC, the only side who could have overtaken them.

Little Waltham took the runners-up slot by winning 9-6 at now former champions Black Bull.

Andy Cole and Martin Saunders fired 180s for the Bull, but although beaten in the singles, Waltham were too strong.

Compasses’ 6-1 darts triumph at Felsted underlined their credentials.

Graham Millbank was the Chequers’ solitary singles winner, but home victories in the mixed, women’s and dominoes kept the margin of defeat to one point.

Dog & Partridge cruised to victory although City Birds did finally chalk up their 10th darts win of the campaign (the only legs they won all night) thanks to captain Hazel Rolfe, at the expense of a red-faced George Wood.

With most of the title issues settled, Compasses can still hijack the Darts League from City in the rearranged match at the Beret (April 17) and Chequers – Mixed League victors over Waltham twice already – face their rivals again in a Finals Night play-off on May 8.

Results: Black Bull 6 Little Waltham SC 9 (darts 3-4, mixed 0-1, women 0-1, dominoes 3-3), City FC 12 Red Beret 3 (6-1, 1-0, 1-0, 4-2), Chequers 7 Compasses 8 (1-6, 1-0, 1-0, 4-2), Dog & Partridge 12 City FC Birds 3 (6-1, 1-0, 1-0, 4-2), Compasses 7 Red Beret 8 (7-0, 0-1, 0-1, 0-6).
