CHELMSFORD Chieftains made it seven wins in succession with back-to-back wins over Lee Valley Lions last weekend.

The Chieftains thumped the Lions 15-2 on Saturday before following up the win 24 hours later on home turf with an 11-5 triumph in the National Ice Hockey League Two.

But it didn’t start as planned.

Despite the significant win in London on Saturday, it was the Lions who struck the first blow and they led after five minutes.

But in a match that the Chieftains sent 73 efforts on goal, it seemed likely the away side’s effort would not go unrewarded.

Ross Brears, Anthony Leone, Grant Bartlett and Tom Wilson ensured a 4-1 lead at the end of the first period.

And the second period was all about the Chieftains.

Michal Oravec scored twice in the second period, with Grant Bartlett completing his hat-trick and Brears, Wilson and Cameron Bartlett also getting on the scoresheet.

With the game won, Chelmsford conceded the first goal of the third period but again went on to strike four times. Wilson wrapped up his treble, before he and Grant Bartlett went on to add a fourth goal each, with Brears also grabbing a third.

It was a closer affair on Sunday, although much of the damage was again done in the first two periods.

Craig and Grant Bartlett scored three goals apiece, with Oravec also on target.

The Bartlett brothers scored another goal each in the final quarter, with Leone and Wilson also netting.

Chelmsford return this weekend. The fourth-placed team visit Kent’s Invicta Mustangs on Saturday and host Cardiff Fire on Sunday, face-off at 6.30pm.
