CHELMSFORD City sit third in the National League South after playing out an exciting 2-2 Boxing Day draw at fellow promotion hopefuls Braintree Town.

It looked as though it would be another three points for Rod Stringer’s men but the Iron equalised with the final kick to earn a share of the spoils.

The Clarets made a barnstorming start against the team also on 39 points at the summit of the National League South.

After just six minutes, Michael Spillane opened the scoring with a delightful strike from the edge of the penalty area which found the top corner.

But four minutes later it was all square at Cressing Road. Phil Roberts got on the end of a cross and made no mistake into the bottom corner.

Chances continued to flow in a hugely entertaining match but neither was able to take the lead before half-time.

Kudus Oyenuga struck beyond the post on 50 minutes before the same man was fouled in the penalty area.

And the forward made no mistake with a clinical finish.

It looked as though that would be enough for the visitors but Marcel Barrington was to have the last laugh.

In the teeming rain, the striker rocketed home in the 92nd minute to ensure the points were shared.

The Clarets beat Welling United 4-1 three days earlier to take four points from their two festive fixtures.

Scott Davies, Luke Daley, Oyenuga and Dickson got the goals in the emphatic win on Saturday afternoon.
