MORE than 150 children completed the annual Discovery Triathlon challenge hosted by Writtle College, in partnership with the Discovery Tri Club.

Organised by the Chelmsford-based sports club and with support from Writtle’s Sport Science and Cycling Performance Department, the triathlon saw the athletes, aged as young as eight, test their endurance as they swam, ran and rode on and off-campus.

Writtle College’s Head of School, Caroline Flanagan, said: “We had a fantastic day with everyone really pushing themselves hard to complete the triathlon and really enjoying the experience.

“We fully embrace partnership opportunities like this with Discovery Tri because we can actively engage with young people about our highly-rated study programmes in sport science and cycling performance as well as the brilliant career opportunities that follow.”

Ashley Nicholson from Discovery Tri Club added: “Our annual event here at Writtle is very popular and well-liked because of the great support we receive from the college and its superb facilities.

“It is the only event in the Eastern region which offers an authentic triathlon race experience of an open water lake swim and tarmac cycle circuit.

“It is a great day for all the young athletes as they get to do what they enjoy best. Having just had a great day, we’re already looking forward to next year’s challenge here at Writtle.”
