CHELSMFORD ABC fighter Forrest Whittlesey has been crowned the Eastern Counties Schoolboy U60kg champion.

Whittlesey won on a split decision after taking on Dean Allum (New Astley ABC), who had only suffered one defeat in four bouts.

Allum started faster but Whittlesey claimed the second round and attacked in the third to secure the verdict.

Chelmsford featherwight Matt Saunders defeated the more experienced Danny Mitchell from Braintree ABC.

Both competed well in Sudbury but Saunder's tidier punching helped earn him the decision.

Jamie Mason lost his first decision contest, going down on points to Shey Wilson from Lansbury ABC.

Wilson was the more aggressive boxer over all three rounds and earned a unanimous decision, although Mason learned a lot from the experience.

The other Chelmsford boxer on the card was Harvey Theedom who showed good skills in his no-decision skills bout against Noah Ranson from the host club.

"Harvey and Jamie would have learnt huge amounts, and with Chelmsford gaining an Eastern Counties schoolboy champion together with Matt enhancing his reputation it was a great day for Chelmsford Amateur Boxing Club," said matchmaker Graham Park.

Chelmsford ABC have a charity boxing dinner show at Chelmsford City Football Club on Friday, May 20. Call 07789 225501 for more information.
