CHELMSFORD City face a tough test this weekend when they head to National League South leaders Ebbsfleet United.

Ebbsfleet were five points clear of Maidstone United at the summit going into Tuesday night’s fixtures and will be looking to extend their grip on the title on Saturday.

But Chelmsford, who played Havant & Waterlooville on Tuesday after the Weekly News went to press, will be buoyed by their 3-1 victory over Bath City on Saturday.

Billy Bricknell headed the Clarets in front after 13 minutes at the Melbourne Stadium.

Jack Bridge then set up Bagasan Graham with a fine pass for the latter to put City 2-0 up against a Bath team not safe from relegation yet.

Chelmsford captain Mark Hughes fired in from the edge of the box five minutes into the second half to increase City’s stranglehold.

Tyler Harvey pulled a goal back for Bath in the 83rd minute but it proved nothing more than a consolation as their hosts held out for victory.

The win left Kevin Maher’s team 14th in the table and six points clear of the relegation zone heading into Tuesday’s fixtures.
