CHELMSFORD Chieftains were presented with their league championship trophies as they signed off the NIHL South Division One in style.

They started with a 9-2 victory over London Raiders – who were their derby rivals when they were the Romford Raiders – on Saturday.

And they drew 2-2 with Wightlink Raiders at the Riverside 24-hours later before receiving the silverware.

Cameron Bartlett, Juraj Huska, Olegs Lascenko and Oliver Baldock put Chelmsford 4-2 up against the Raiders after the opening period.

Charlie Phillips and Huska increased the lead to 6-2 in the second stanza.

Darren Brown scored and Bartlett grabbed his second in the final period before Huska completed his hat-trick to wrap up the 9-2 victory.

The Raiders are likely to be Chelmsford’s opponents in the quarter-finals of the league play-offs.

On Sunday Chieftains played their last game of the regular season and were looking to avenge their home defeat to the Wightlink Raiders the last time they met at the Riverside.

Coach Sean Easton’s side were ultimately left disappointed though as they fought back from 2-1 down to draw 2-2 with three minutes remaining.

Huska put the Chieftains 1-0 up but Wightlink equalised three minutes into the second period.

They added a second seconds before the end of the stanza but Cameron Bartlett struck late on to ensure the draw.

It ended a league season where the Chieftains dominated the division, dropping just seven points out of a possible 72.

After the game both Chelmsford Chieftains and Warriors were presented with their championship trophies and medals by officials of the English Ice Hockey Association.

The Easter weekend sees Chelmsford play Streatham Redskins away in the first leg of the Cup Final, with the second leg on Sunday at the Riverside.
