ROB Girdlestone believes teamwork is the key to Chelmsford City’s upturn in fortunes.

Going into Tuesday night’s trip to Hemel Hempstead Town, the Clarets had won three of their last four games.

That included Saturday’s 4-1 win over 10-man Maidstone United at the Melbourne Stadium.

"I think recently we have been playing as a team more,” said right-back Girdlestone. “We're not playing as individuals, although we've got people who can do that, but the rest of us are just working as units.

"The back four are together, the midfield are together and we all just work as a team now and I think that's been the difference really. In training we've been working on it week in, week out and hopefully we can carry it on.

"Obviously, we have been going well and we just want to keep it going for as long as we can. The end of the season is coming up and we're fighting to keep out of the bottom three and it's so far, so good.”

An own goal from Maidenhead goalkeeper Carl Pentney opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and Jack Bridge, on loan from Southend United, was on target five minutes later to give the hosts a 2-0 half-time lead.

James Comley reduced the arrears in the 59th minute but substitute Luke Daley restored the two-goal advantage in the 75th minute.

Bridge made the points safe four minutes later with his second of the game and Maidenhead had Josh Huggins sent off in the 87th minute for s second bookable offence.

Chelmsford head to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.
