CHELMSFORD Chieftains secured their fourth consecutive league title at the weekend.

A 9-5 victory away to Cardiff Devils on Saturday wrapped a successful defence of their NIHL South Division One crown, before defeating title rivals Invicta Dynamos 2-1 24 hours later.

The win in Gillingham concluded a three-match spell on the road for Chelmsford, who will celebrate winning the championship with their fans at home to Bracknell Hornets on Sunday.

It marks a successful season for new coach Sean Easton and his Chieftains after they secured the South East Cup last month.

And they are still on course to make it a treble as they lock horns with Streatham Redskins in the two-legged final of the NIHL Cup later this month.

Juraj Huska and Grant Bartlett both scored two goals against the Cardiff Devils to put Chieftains 10 points clear with five league matches remaining.

Danny Wright, James Ayling, Anthony Leone, Ross Brears and Cameron Bartlett were also on target for Chelmsford in the Welsh capital.

Billy Phillips and Darren Brown got the goals on Sunday night as the Chieftains enjoyed a 2-1 win over the Dynamos.

It ensured Chelmsford have beaten their Kent rivals three times in the league this season, drawing the other match.

The Chelmsford Warriors also put themselves in pole position to win NIHL Division Two East on Saturday night.

They defeated Peterborough Islanders 8-3 at the Riverside to lead the table by four points with two games remaining.

The Islanders have been the Warriors' main title rivals all season and finishing top of the table would give the Chelmsford team their first league title.
