CHELMSFORD City pulled themselves three points clear of the National League South relegation zone with a 3-0 win over 10-man Weston-super-Mare.

Southend United loanees' Jason Williams and Jack Bridge put the Clarets in control, while former Shrimpers midfielder Lee Sawyer wrapped up the points.

Williams lobbed Weston goalkeeper Luke Purnell in the 22nd minute and the hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 67th minute when left-back Ollie Barnes was given a straight red card for bringing down Williams.

Bridge rubbed salt into the wounds in the 69th minute when he shot into the bottom corner.

Sawyer scored the winner from the penalty spot after Bridge was brought down in stoppage time.

The win leaves Chelmsford 18th in the table, with Weston three points behind in 20th.

Caretaker manager Kevin Maher will be hoping the Clarets can make it back-to-back league wins when they host Bishop's Stortford on Monday night.

Stortford go into the match in 14th place and three points ahead of City, following their 3-0 defeat at home to Truro City on Saturday.
