CHELMSFORD Chieftains had a mixed weekend with a 6-3 home win over Solent Devils and a 4-3 defeat away to Streatham Redskins.

Charlie Phillips put the Chieftains ahead before the Devils equalised with a powerplay goal. Cameron Bartlett handed the hosts the lead again only for Solent to level the score. And another powerplay goal put the Devils 3-2 up going into the final period.

Darren Brown equalised and it was one-way traffic as goals from Olegs Lascenko, Matt Turner and Lukas Zatopek gave the Chieftains the victory.

It keeps the Chieftains ten points ahead of the chasing Invicta Dynamos, with just six games remaining.

Sunday’s South-East Cup 3-4 loss at Streatham was obviously disappointing. But it was a dead-rubber game as the Chieftains secured the trophy last month and is safety stored in the trophy cabinet.

Lascenko, Turner and Danny Hammond were on target for the Chieftains.

In NIHL Division 2 East Chelmsford Warriors remain on top of the pile after a great 8-2 win against Haringey Racers.

This weekend the Chieftains head to Wightlink Raiders in the first leg of the NIHL Division One Cup semi-final, with the return leg at the Riverside on Sunday (6.30pm face-off).
