TOM Bradbrook broke Chelmsford City’s hearts on Saturday as the Clarets failed to end their winless league streak.

Billy Bricknell’s goal looked set to hand City their first three-point haul in six games at Dartford on Saturday.

But Bradbrook’s stoppage time equaliser meant Mark Hawkes’ team had to settle for a point at Princes Park.

“It’s difficult to take but you have to take the positives out of the game,” said Hawkes. “We have had two away draws so you have to look at the positives.

“If we had dealt with the corner then the game would be over but we didn’t deal with that.

“He’s (goalkeeper Tim Brown) just said in there that someone’s grabbed him round the waist so he can’t move his arms but we have to live with that.

“But the positives are the effort, the application, the goalkeeper made a couple of good saves in the first half but like Boxing Day there was nothing between the two sides.

“A bit of consistency into the new year and hopefully we can turn that corner. It’s very disappontuing that we couldnd see the last 30 seconds out. We had dealt with free-kicks and corners all game but it wasn’t to be.”

Bricknell put Chelmsford ahead with 10 minutes of the match left to give City fans among the 1,205-strong crowd hope they could start 2016 in style.

But the Clarets were made to pay for conceding a string of corners as Bradbrook came off the bench to scramble home one of the flag kicks in the fourth minute of injury time.

Bradbrook’s goal ensured the Darts made it 10 games without defeat.

But the point made sure Chelmsford remained 14th in the National League South table ahead of their home match against Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

City have not won at the Melbourne Stadium since their 5-2 Essex derby humbling of Concord Rangers.

Weston go into the match in 19th place in the table, six points below their hosts, but Hawkes is taking nothing for granted as they prepare for their first clash of the season against the Somerset team.

“It’s another big game and an opportunity to put three points on the board,” the City manager said.

The match kicks-off at 3pm on Saturday, with Chelmsford taking a break from league action when they travel to Canvey to take on Concord Rangers in the quarter-finals of the Essex Senior Cup.

There will be a 7.45pm kick-off at the Aspects Arena for the last eight match of the Essex County FA competition.
