CHELMSFORD Chieftains go into the Christmas break on top of NIHL Division 1 South and 11 points clear of the chasing pack after another great display at the weekend.
On Saturday former league leaders Streatham Redskins were in town for the final home game of 2015 and suffered a 5-1 defeat before Chieftains beat London Raiders 5-3 away on Sunday.
The Redskins survived two powerplays before forward Jake Sylvester gave the Chieftains a 1-0 first period lead. Danny Hammond capitalised on a deflection to make it 2-0 and Juraj Huska added a third during a powerplay. Grant Bartlett made it 4-0 heading into the final period.
Ben Clements in action in the Chieftains' goal
Chelmsford netminder Ben Clements made a great double save but was beaten by Liam Rasmussen, before Matt Turner and Darren Brown added powerplay goals.
On Sunday the Chieftains beat the London Raiders 5-3 at Lee Valley in a rearranged South East cup fixture.
NIHL Division Two leaders Chelmsford Warriors secured a 10-2 victory over Invicta Mustangs.
Flashpoint - Chieftains and Redskins players confront each other
Chieftains are in action again at Riverside on Sunday, January 3 against Oxford City Stars (6.30pm face-off).
They are the only team to have beaten Chelmsford in the league this season so the Chieftains will be looking for revenge.
