MARK Hawkes marked his 100th game in charge of Chelmsford City with a 2-1 defeat away to Gosport Borough.

It had looked like the Clarets would leave Privett Park with a point after Michael Thalassitis cancelled out Dan Wooden’s opener.

But George Barker netted a winner for the Hampshire hosts six minutes from time.

Hawkes said he was proud to reach the 100-match milestone but called on his team to start picking up league points.

“I have got to look past the result,” the City manager said. “I thought we were the better side for long periods of the game.

“We have played wekk but the game hinges on two mistakes we have made and they have capitalised on both of them.

“If we cut out the individual errors we would be a good side and climb the table.

“There’s no league games for a couple of weeks and the teams around us will play a couple and we could end up a bit down the table.

“We have got to start picking up league points. It’s not good playing well and coming away with nothing.”

Wooden put Boro ahead in the 49th minute but Thalassitis’s second goal in two games levelled the scores in the 88th minute. But Barker grabbed the winner in the 84th minute.

Thalassitis scored the winner against Gloucester City in Chelmsford’s FA Trophy replay the previous Tuesday.

That goal set up a first round proper tie against National League leaders Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

And the Clarets will be hoping that their quick return to Whadden Road, where the Robins’ Gloucester tenants also play, will prove equally successful.
