CHELMSFORD Chieftains continued their quest for league glory last weekend with back-to-back home wins.

Cardiff NIHL Devils visited on Saturday but were without the minimum number of players.

Chieftains could have claimed a 5-0 walkover but played the match and were rewarded with an 8-1 victory without shifting into top gear.

Danny Hammond scored four goals with Jake Sylvester, Juraj Huska, Darren Brown and Cameron Bartlett also on target.

The only negative on the night being Cardiff’s consolation goal 24 minutes into the game which ruined young netminder Sonny Phillips deserved shut-out.

On Sunday Invicta Dynamos were the visitors.

They have been in a good run of form lately and unbeaten in five games, one of those being a 3-3 draw with the Chieftains at Riverside two weeks previous.

But the Kent team were unable to repeat that performance as they lost 6-2.

Matt Turner put Chieftains ahead before a powerplay goal and a slapshot gave the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Cameron Bartlett equalised with a power-play goal and Chelmsford turned up the heat in the middle period with Turner scoring his second and Danny Hammond making it 4-2.

Further goals from Juraj Huska and Julian Smith in the final period made it a comfortable 6-2 win for the Chieftains.

Chelmsford are nine points clear at the top of NIHL Division One South at the halfway point of the season and host Streatham Redskins on Saturday (5.40pm).
