CHELMSFORD ladies’ first team suffered their first loss in five games with a 4-1 defeat against well organised and skilful Cambridge City.

Chelmsford started brightly but Cambridge opened the scoring and then added a second after 15 minutes.

It sparked Chelmsford into life and they were rewarded when Kate Maxey fired an unstoppable shot into the City goal.

The hosts looked set to equalise in the second half but Cambridge scored from a breakaway and then from a short corner.

The ladies head to Slough on Saturday, November 7.

Chelmsford’s men lost 3-2 at Blueharts but took encourangement from their performance.

Tom Fanger’s half-volley gave Chelmsford the lead but Bluehearts equalised with a deflected shot and then took the lead from a short corner following a power play.

With Chelmsford back up to full strength, the visitors equalised through a marauding Fanger.

But the hosts grabbed a winner in a rare foray into the Chelmsford defensive quarter, to leave the visitors looking to rise from the bottom of the table when they host Bedford on Saturday.

The following day they host National Premier League leaders Surbiton in the England Hockey Cup.

The ladies’ fourth team beat second-placed Essex Premier visitorsMaldon & Little Baddow 4-3 in a thrilling match.

Maldon took an early lead but Chelmsford scored through Devonish after Eager’s shot deflected off the goalie to makei t 1-1 at half-time.

Devonish made it 2-1 from a short corner and Goody teed up Guy to make it 3-1.

But mistakes proved costly as Maldon scored twice to equalise and it was left to Day to score an amazing strike to secure Chelmsford’s win.

The men’s fifth team lost 6-1 to Thurrock II in East 7SE.

Steve Sale got the consolation for Chelmsford, who featured promising youth players Will Cooper, Archie Wittingham and Cormack Mahne.

Chelmsford Men’s sixth team thumped Romford 8-0 in East 9SE.

Max Harder scored four, Scot Reilley three and Rickey Lee one as the defence kept their third consecutive clear sheet.
