WEATHER took its toll on Chelmsford Cricket Club’s fixtures at the weekend with all five matches falling foul of the wet weather.

The first team saw their home match against Loughton abandoned following the visitors’ innings.

Oliver Devenish had taken 3-28, Anthony Hill 2-23 and Sam Cook 2-10 as Loughton struggled to 90-9 when rain forced the Premier Division match to be called off.

It was the same story for the second XI in their Premier Division match at Chingford.

Miles Clark scored 114 and Robert Hayto and unbeaten 114 to guide Chelmsford to 325-5. Chingord started their reply but then rain flooded the outfield.

The third XI had reached 137-2 at home to Wanstead & Snaresbrook in the Premier Division when rain forced the match to be abandoned.

Chelmsford’s fourth XI posted 246-8 declared at Hornchurch, with Phil Arnold scoring 53 and Abhjeet Kumar 46.

Hornchurch reached 28-1 when wet weather forced the Division One game to be abandoned.

Completing the weekend washout was the fifth XI’s trip to Buckhurst Hill IV in the Premier Division.

Jack Campion’s unbeaten 50 was the highlight of Chelmsford’s 114 all out innings, with Buckhurst Hill on 62-6 when rain stopped play.
