ESSEX County Cricket Club head coach Paul Grayson is delighted that David Masters and Graham Napier have committed themselves to the club.

Masters and Napier have both signed new one-year contract with the county which will keep them at the Essex County Ground until the end of the 2016 season.

“I am delighted that both Dave and Graham have signed new deals,” said Grayson.

“Both are top class professionals, who give their all for this club.

“They are excellent role models on and off the pitch for our young players, and I am looking forward to working with the pair of them for at least another two years.”

Colchester-born Napier, 35, has spent his whole career with his home county, where he has established himself as an all-rounder, batting in the lower orders and opening the bowling.

His top score for Essex was 196 and he has claimed 397 wickets for the county since making his first class debut in May 1997.

“I am delighted to have signed for another year, having spent my entire career with the club,” said Napier.

“It gives me great pride every time I play for the county. I want to continue to contribute to the side, and hopefully help us to success over the coming years.”

Masters signed for Essex in 2008 after three seasons with Leicestershire, and has since gone on to become the leader of the bowling attack.

He started his First Class career playing for his home county, Kent, where the 37-year-old spent four seasons before moving to Grace Road.

Up to the end of 2014, right arm medium-fast bowler Masters had taken 376 First Class wickets for Essex, at an average of 21.27.

“I’m over the moon to be doing another year at my age!” said Masters.

“I still feel I’ve got plenty to offer, both on the pitch and helping the youngsters.

“I feel I’m still contributing in all formats, and hopefully we can win some trophies to end my career on a high.”
