CHELMSFORD CITY ended a winless run of three games as they saw off Bath City 2-1 thanks to a second half header from substitute Michael Cheek.

A scrappy City goal in which Jason Williams looked to have got the final touch set-up a frenetic ending to the first half as Clarets’ Bradley Watkins recorded an own goal, helping his opposite number’s punt up-field over the line, as both sides cancelled each other out going into the break.

But Michael Cheek headed in at the far post with just less than a quarter of an hour remaining as the Clarets returned to winning ways in front of a 670-strong crowd.

The Clarets were without Luke Callender, who left the club on Thursday by mutual consent. Callender scored 12 goals in his 33 appearances for City and his goals last season helped keep Chelmsford in the Conference South.

And youngster Jack Barham has joined Ryman One North club Maldon & Tiptree on a three-month loan.

The Jammers have enjoyed an upturn in formin recent weeks after a sluggish start to the season.

Chelmsford are in action again on Saturday when they make the short trip to Bishop’s Stortford in the Conference South.
