CONCORD Rangers take on Chelmsford City tonight with manager Danny Cowley calling the match-up a ‘football miracle’ after the Beachboys finished above their rivals last season.

The Beachboys visit Chelmsford in a repeat of their very first away game at Conference South level – a 2-2 draw in the first week last season – and will be looking for a repeat performance this evening.

And Danny Cowley said his team head into the game in confident mood, eager to pick up a result after the disappointment of losing in the dying moments on Saturday.

“It’s an occasion to look forward to,” said Cowley, who turned down the vacant manager’s job at the Clarets last November. “About eight years ago most of the Chelmsford City fans wouldn’t have been able to tell you who Concord Rangers were but now we are competing at the same level.”

Concord finished 9th last term, eight places above Chelmsford, and Cowley says the achievement was ‘tremendous’.

“It is a football miracle that we finished above them considering their infrastructure and fan base and I know everyone at Concord Rangers is very proud of the progress we have made.

“It will be a tough game but all the games are but we have never backed away from a challenge and we head into this one eager to do well.

“Games like this are why we play football.”
