CHELMSFORD City will be looking to be the victors against Staines Town on Saturday as they look to secure their Skrill South League status.

Mark Hawkes’ Clarets picked up a more than respectable five points in a gruelling fixture schedule last week, which meant City fought out four games in seven days.

A defeat at Boreham Wood was followed up by a last-gasp 3-2 win at Basingstoke Town on the Tuesday. Two days later, skipper Mark Hughes popped up in the last minute to net a deserved equaliser against Bishop’s Stortford before they locked horns with champions-elect Eastleigh, holding the league’s big spenders to a 0-0 stalemate.

And three points against Staines Town, managed by Marcus Gayle who appeared in the 1998 World Cup in France for Jamaica, would be vital for the visitors as they look to edge a step closer to retaining their league status.

It will be another tough week for City as they play host to both Tonbridge Angels and FA Trophy finalists Gosport Borough in the space of three days following this away encounter at Staines.

But it will be no easy test against a Staines side who sit in a healthy position in the Skrill South table. The Swans lie in 9th place having collated 57 points from 39 games and will be looking to build on their goalless draw with Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday evening which followed a disappointing and narrow 1-0 loss to Chris Kinnear’s Dover Athletic.

A victory would certainly go a long way for the Clarets who will do everything they can to return to Essex with maximum points.

The game kicks off at 3pm
