BOXING: Young Jesse performs well in debut bout
11:51am Wednesday 16th April 2014 in Sport
ON Friday, Chelmsford’s Jesse Lee had his first scoring contest at Mayland versus Jim Walton from Billericay in a very entertaining contest, which had the crowd on its feet.
Young Jesse produced a tremendous performance against a very game opponent. Jesse’s sharp jab and great footwork impressed the judges and he won by a unanimous decision. Jesse also won best performance of the night by the host club.
On Saturday, Lewis Meason and Tom Reed travelled to Sudbury. Reed, having his first contest for Chelmsford, boxed very well in the first round, but tired and lost to John Case from Essex University.
Lewis Meason was up against local favourite Jez Summer from Sudbury. Lewis boxed fabulously in the first round, controlling the ring with sharp punching.
The second round was close but Lewis looked to be on his way to victory. The third and final round was fast and furious with the local crowd cheering their lad on with Lewis going toe to toe punch for punch with Summer.
It was very close, but the decision went the Sudbury lad’s way to the astonishment of Meason and his trainers.
Chelmsford coach Danny Thompson said: “Lewis was very unlucky and we will get a rematch soon. Tom has a lot to learn and will bounce back. Jesse is definitely a prospect for the future if he trains hard in the gym.”
Chelmsford’s Johnny Lee will be in action at Rayleigh on Saturday.
