CHELMSFORD Chieftains were in dominant form over the weekend as they secured maximum points in their quest to regain their NIHL Division 1 South crown.

On Saturday they travelled to Milton Keynes where the team quickly adjusted to the tiny temporary ice pad being used by the Thunder this year.

The Chieftains ran riot and racked up 12 goals with the home team managing a consolation strike with just under two minutes remaining.

That goal ended Chieftains club record-breaking run of 260 minutes and 21 seconds of hockey without conceding a goal.

But at this stage of the season, with both Wightlink Raiders and Invicta Dynamos hot on the the heels of the Chieftains, it’s the points that are paramount. Top scorers on the night were Gary Clarke (4) and Ross Brears (3).

On Sunday Chieftains hosted Streatham Redskins at Riverside.

The last time the two teams met was in December where the Redskins were 6-3 victors, so Chieftains knew they had to be on top form.

As with many teams that visit Riverside, the Redskins adopted a defensive style, relying on breakaway attacks for chances to score.

The Redskin defence was solid for the first 14 minutes before Clarke hit the target.

He was on fire over the weekend and doubled the tally just before the first period break.

But seven minutes into the second period Redskins narrowed the gap at 27:11, but only momentarily as within two minutes the advantage was back to two, with Clarke getting the final touch.

Further goals from James Ayling, Luke Brittle, Daniel Volrab, Tom Castle and Clarke cemented the 8-2 victory.
