Chelmsford were caught sleeping in the first minute as Cambridge hit a cross which found an unmarked attacker at the back post who opened the scoring with an easy tap-in.

It wasn’t long for the home team to get back on level terms though, after a precision cross from Harry Rayner found the stick of Vas Veerapalan, which sailed into the net.

Chelmsford found their second with Veerapalan again, who cleared up after a miss-flick from Hugh Fillingham during a short corner.

The game levelled out until Cambridge won a short corner which managed to beat Chelmsford’s goalkeeper James Stock.

With the game at 2-2 Chelmsford continued to break the Cambridge lines which resulted in a cross finding Mike Millane who neatly lifted the ball over the prone Cambridge goalkeeper.

Chelmsford went into half time leading the game 3-2.

After half time Cambridge won another short corner which was well drilled and managed to give them their third goal through another tap in at the back post.

Chelmsford continued to attack the Cambridge circle which resulted in a bombardment of short corners, which they were unable to convert.

Cambridge found their fourth goal after last defender Fillingham brought down the Cambridge attacker which ended in a penalty flick being awarded and scored.

Chelmsford continued to attack but were unable to get an equaliser, and the game ended with the final score a 4-3 win for Cambridge.
