Double delight for our ice hockey teams

ANOTHER pair of wins this past weekend for the Chelmsford Chieftains and Warriors saw the good run of form continue as the Warriors now sit second in the NIHL2S league, while the Chieftains remain third in the NIHL1S but with games in hand on the sides above them.
A brace for Gary Brown and the impressive youngster Olegs Lascenko along with a single marker for Bailey Chittock was enough for Dean Birrell’s team to see off a rough and tough Mustangs side at the Riverside on Saturday night.
It was all Chelmsford for most of the game and despite a late flurry of penalties against the Mustangs, the home side were unable to increase on their five goals.
On Sunday night the fresher legs of the Chieftains, having not had a game on the Saturday night, was the key difference as they were able to last the full game before tiring, whereas the Hornets began to tire late in the second period and third and the home side were able to run in additional goals almost at will.
An impressive hat-trick from an on-form Ross Brears was the highlight of the night in what was a slow game to watch at times, until it came to life late on as both Bartlett brothers dropped the gloves with Hornets players as temparatures rose in the dying moments.
Also on the scoresheet were two goals for Gary Clarke and a single marker for Alex Green who made his 300th appearance for the Chieftains and took him to 11th on the all-time appearance makers list.
James Ayling also made it on to the scoreboard with a nicely taken goal.
This coming weekend sees the Chieftains have a rare home league game on Saturday evening as they take on the Cardiff NIHL Devils with face-off at 5.45pm, while on Sunday they head to Kent to face the Invicta Dynamos in league action again.
Both games should be fiesty and intense and not to be missed.
On Sunday the Warriors welcome Peterborough Islanders to the Riverside in cup action with face-off at 6.30pm,
