Staines Town v Chelmsford City preview
12:49pm Friday 1st March 2013 in Sport
CHELMSFORD City manager Glenn Pennyfather will pay no attention to Staines Town’s league position when he takes his side to Wheatsheaf Park for an important Blue Square Bet South fixture on Saturday, especially as he has new injury concerns to add to his already hampered squad availability.
The Middlesex club are currently in 19th position in the table but Marcus Gayle’s side have historically been tough to negotiate on their own patch, plus they’re only two wins away from the top ten of a tight division.
Chelmsford themselves desire points to keep up with the pacesetters, and a point or more could see them jump to third.
City had to toil hard to win 3-2 in the reverse fixture back in October at Melbourne, and Glenn said: “Staines were about second when they came to play us in Chelmsford earlier in the season and they’ve suffered since.
"But when you look at their side - and I’ve seen their recent game against Eastleigh - they’ve got some excellent players. It’s a lovely surface over there, but it’s still a very difficult place to go to and get points.”
He’ll have a few decisions to make before deciding on his starting 11. Defenders Bradley Hamilton and Justin Miller, plus winger Donovan Simmonds, missed Tuesday’s trip to Bromley, though goalkeeper Stuart Searle enjoyed his first full training session on Thursday night.
The midweek game also saw fellow custodian Danzelle St Louis-Hamilton, left-back Joe Whight and central midfielder Max Cornhill leave the field with knocks.
