Double delight for our boxers

CHELMSFORD Amateur Boxing Club travelled to Devon on Saturday giving previous opponents a promised return match.

Lenny Prudence handed Alex Jones of Tiverton a second chance and Jen Davis allowed Steph Ward of Barnstable another go.

First to box was Lennie, against a very eager Jones. Lennie started strong and sharp using his reach and fabulous speed to fend of Jones’s aggressive style.

It was a great perfomance by Prudence. After three dominating rounds of perfect boxing, Lenny was judged a unanimous points winner.

Danny Thompson, Chelmsford’s chief coach, said: “Lenny is improving at the right time of the season. He is showing great maturity and I am expecting him to do well in the Junior ABAs coming up soon.”

Last in the ring was Chelmsford’s first female boxer, Jen Davis, against local lass Steph Ward.

After sizing up Ward, Davis pushed forward throwing fast right-left combinations pushing Ward back to the ropes but Ward produced some good counters of her own.

For three rounds both boxers produced great skills. This bout was closer for the home lass but it was Davis whose arm was raised in victory by the referee, giving her the decision by a majority.

Danny said: “It is never easy travelling a long distance to compete but both Lenny and Jen did our club proud. They are both listening to my instructions well and I hope they will be future champions in the making.”

Chelmsford trainer Albie Smith said: “I am very proud of our club. It is getting stronger in talent by the month. I am sure Chelmsford will see a champion in the colours of claret and white in the not too distant future.”
