Chelmsford City v Sutton United preview
10:22am Friday 22nd February 2013 in Sport
TENTH-PLACED Sutton United provide the opposition for Glenn Pennyfather’s Chelmsford City this Saturday at Melbourne Stadium (3pm kick-off), and the Clarets boss has a growing injury list to contend with as he aims to claim the points which could see them jump up to third position.
Top scorer Jamie Slabber is still absent as he serves the final game of his three-match suspension, while goalkeeper Stuart Searle is still around a week to ten days away from fitness as he recovers from a leg injury. Also missing will be Justin Miller (ankle), Donovan Simmonds (hamstring) and Anthony Cook (knee).
Paul Doswell’s Sutton side have been improving as the season has unfolded after a disastrous first few games which saw them rooted to the bottom of the table.
Since then they’ve progressed to a position just outside the play-offs and their last three matches have ended in victories against Basingstoke Town, Eastbourne Borough and Blue Square Bet South leaders Welling United.
Glenn said: “They’re a good side with a strong squad, and Paul’s had a change around in personnel over there.
"I said of Sutton and Eastleigh, even when they were in the bottom two, that they’d be involved in the promotion shake-up by the end of the season, and that’s proved to be the case. They’ve had to stand up and be counted.”
“We’ve been on a decent run ourselves, with only two defeats in ten league games, and we’re no different to six weeks ago when we had to collect as many points as we could to finish as high as we can.
"We’re still in a good position and we’ve got some tough games coming up, but all we can do is concentrate on our own position.”
