A WOMAN will begin a mammoth round-Britain row from Burnham this weekend.

Laura Try, 34, from Essex, will set off from the town on the 1,800 mile challenge on Saturday.

She will finish the fundraiser for Centrepoint, a charity which helps homeless young adults, back in Burnham on July 29.

The blogger and events manager will take on unreliable weather, strong currents and just two hours’ sleep at a time during the eight week challenge.

She has spent the last 12 months training for the trip which will be completed in eight legs.

The boat will be crewed by four rowers and two-time world record rower and Burnham man Angus Collins, who will act as skipper.

Laura will man the boat for the entire trip with fellow crew members joining for up to three weeks at a time.

She is fundraising for Centrepoint having spent three months homeless during the winter of 2016.

She said: “It was the lowest and scariest point of my life. That feeling of not belonging and not having the warmth and security of a home was terrible. It was incredibly lonely.

“I was too embarrassed to ask for help. I felt like a low life and failure and it started to affect my physical and mental health.

"Now I have a good job and a home, I want to make a difference to other people’s lives who do not have a home.”

She hopes to raise £25,000 to support the charity.

Laura and the crew will row for two hours on, two hours off for the full 56 days and will likely burn 8,000 calories a day. She will use a hand- built ocean rowing boat made especially for the challenge.
