THE mayor of Chelmsford has stood down from office and resigned as councillor - following a police investigation into computer equipment.
David Lee, member for the Moulsham and Central ward of Chelmsford Council, officially resigned as mayor and councillor on Friday.
A Chelmsford Council spokesperson confirmed that Mr Lee's resignation follows a police investigation into inappropriate use of the council's computer equipment.
She added: "Full cooperation is being given to the police by the Mayor and the Council in an investigation, which is likely to last several months."
