STAVELEY A put in a powerful performance as they beat Lower Holker A 9-1 to move within three points of leaders Levens A in the Rothay Bowling League.

But with a game in hand and only four matches left it looks increasingly that Levens A will retain the championship for another year after they beat Lindale 8-2.

At the other end of the table, Windermere may be contemplating their poor start to the season as the reason for their troubles having now won three of their last four matches - this weekend picking up a 7-3 win.

In Division Two Coniston B’s 7-3 success at third-placed Ambleside B gave them a 16-point cushion over them, making Coniston firm favourites to gain promotion this season.

Allithwaite A remain second, eight points ahead of Ambleside B, but they have yet to visit Coniston B, and the battle for the other promotion place may well go down to the wire.
