CHELMSFORD Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre has been spruced up.
The exterior of the council run centre has been refreshed, signage improved and parking facilities refurbished.
Improvements are soon to be made to the Excel Health and Fitness Gym and swimming pool changing areas, which will involve closures.
The first stage of work takes place during late November and December, providing additional equipment and more space for free weight training and exercise classes.
At the same time, improvements will be made to the changing rooms that serve the centre’s swimming pool and essential maintenance will be carried out to its underlying plant areas. By this time the current improvement works to the changing rooms for the sports hall and squash courts will be complete.
Chelmsford Council’s cabinet member for leisure and culture Ray Ride said: “Our research has shown that this particular period of the year would cause the least disruption to customers who use this part of the centre. We apologise for any inconvenience that this work may cause, but be rest assured the new improved facilities will be worth the wait, increasing the quality of each facility within the centre to the benefit of customers young and old.”
The Excel Health and Fitness Gym will be unavailable from Saturday, November 28, and is expected to re-open around Monday, December 28.
The swimming pool and changing room area will be unavailable from Monday, November 23, until the week commencing January 4.
The programme of improvement and maintenance work during late November and December does not affect the operation of the ice rink facility in any way.
