Students celebrate A-level success


CHELMSFORD schools are celebrating top results in A-level passes.

The town’s County High School for Girls got a 99.03 per cent pass rate at grade A to E.

Of these, 86.47 per cent passes were at grade A and B.

Sixteen students gained five A grades and two students gained six A grades.

Nicole Chapman, headteacher at the school, said: “We are delighted with the results gained by our students. They have exceeded our expectations and as a school we have improved on last year’s results.

“The girls have achieved outstanding results with 12 successful offers of places at Oxford and Cambridge.”

ST Peter’s College, which will close its doors in 2011, reported a pass rate of 93 per cent at A-level and, for the third successive year, all students who wished to go on to university have gained their first choice place.

Performing arts, English and psychology had excellent results, with Alex Arnot and Alice Duffy achieving A, B, C grades in their chosen subjects.

Once again BTec Sports had a 100 per cent pass rate with students surpassing their target grades. Erin Hibble and Bradley Temperley will go on to study sports studies BSc at Bedford University.

Headteacher Kulvinder Cheema said: “I would like to pay tribute to the staff, parents and the students who have worked tremendously hard for this success in what has been a challenging time for the school and its community.”

MOULSHAM High School and Humanities College achieved a 97.2 per cent pass rate – its highest ever at A-level.

Three students – Guy Schofield, Alice Howlett and Grace Brownfield – achieved five grade As and the vast majority have secured their university places.

Headteacher Dr Chris Nicholls said: “This was an able year group, but one whose AS results at the end of Year 12 were slightly below expectations. They have certainly put that right during this year. I am delighted with their performance, which was richly deserved.”

Delighted and very proud summed up the feelings of headteacher David Franklin as students at Chelmer Valley High collected their exam results.

The overall pass rate was 98 per cent, with 37 per cent of the grades being A and B.

In 22 subjects – a school record – a 100 per cent pass rate was achieved.

Richard Stephens got A grades in five subjects and is going on to study engineering at King’s College, Cambridge.

Other top performers were Samantha Dordoy, with four A grades and Stephanie Garrod, with three A grades.

Mr Franklin said: “Once again we have had a highly successful year. I want to congratulate and send my best wishes to all our students, whether they are destined to go on to university, apprenticeships or employment.”

NEW Hall independent School is celebrating a 100 per cent pass rate.

Forty-seven per cent of the grades were As and a record 21 students achieved between three and five As at A-level.

Principal Katherine Jeffery said: “We are proud of the students and delighted so many academic records have been broken.

“These exceptional results, including 115 A-level modules with a perfect 100 per cent score, have brought record university success.”

Top scoring student and former head boy Daniel Kohout achieved five A grades.

He was followed by several students who achieved four A grades.
