GOOD neighbours. That is what Peter and Bev Robinson and Adam and Nicky Dulieu are.

And to prove it, their two front gardens were voted joint winners of the best hard surfaced garden in Chelmsford.

The results of the annual best-kept street, normal and hard surfaced gardens have been announced.

And the neighbours, who live in Sycamore Way, scooped the prize.

Peter said: “We got together to design a joint plan where we could have our cars parked either side.

“There is a circular bed in the middle of the two gardens with flowers. Obviously we each have our own tastes.”

He said it was about 18 months ago they first thought of the idea.

“We experimented with different plants for the first time last year and learnt from our mistakes.”

Patrick Bermingham, chairman of Chelmsford Civic Society, which organises the competition on behalf of the Pride in a Cleaner Chelmsford Committee, said it created the idea of a common garden with a big circle in the centre full of flowers.

The winner of the best-kept street was Perigrine Drive and winner of the normal garden category was Colin Marshall, of Osprey Way.
