A GAY couple will become parents to their second set of twins – after becoming famous by making history as Britain’s first official gay fathers.

Millionaires Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow, who live in Danbury and run businesses in Chelmsford, Maldon and Danbury, were the first to have both names on their children’s birth certificates almost a decade ago and are now expecting their fourth and fifth children on Valentine’s Day.

In 1999 the couple used donated eggs and a surrogate mother in the USA to have twins, Aspen and Saffron.

And in a landmark case, a US Supreme Court judge ruled the pair could both be registered as parents.

The couple also have a younger son, aged five, called Orlando.

Barrie, 40, and Tony, 43, were married in 2006.

The egg donor this time is different from the one used for Aspen, Saffron and Orlando – due to age restrictions – but the surrogate mother, from San Francisco, is the same as gave birth to Orlando.

The couple, who flew to the states to interview potential egg donors before making their choice, have decided not to reveal who is the biological father, but are hoping the birth may be able to take place in the UK.
