RAIL passengers could see an end to overcrowding on their rush-hour commute, as a train company invests in more carriages.
National Express East Anglia is adding 188 extra carriages in the Anglia region The announcement comes just a day after Network Rail announced plans to spend more than £1billion over five years to make train services more efficient and ease commuter overcrowding.
The extra carriages could be in use by December.
The refurbished carriages will be used to provide longer trains on the Great Eastern routes from Ipswich, Clacton, Colchester, Chelmsford and Southend to London, and also help provide additional capacity on services between Norwich and London.
Once all improvements are in place by December 2011, approximately 11,000 extra seats will be provided into Liverpool Street in the three-hour morning peak period.
