STUDENTS in Chelmsford have again notched up top marks in the latest round of results tables.
The borough’s secondary schools, sixth forms and colleges celebrated impressive scores for GCSEs and post-16 courses, such as A-Levels, as the Department for Children, Schools and Families released its annual figures.
Grammar schools Chelmsford County High School for Girls and King Edward VI topped the list for GSCE results, with all of their pupils achieving five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths subjects.
Nicole Chapman, headteacher at Chelmsford County High School, said: “Once again, we at Chelmsford County High School are extremely proud of our students.
“Their achievements consistently place our school in the top 20 nationally.
“This, we do not take lightly, and recognise that it is the result of the expertise and dedication of our staff and the motivation and enthusiasm of our students supported by their parents.”
Chelmer Valley High School also scored highly in the same category, with 70 per cent of its students achieving the grades, compared to 53 per cent for the previous year.
David Franklin, headteacher, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the news which comes on top of being classed as an Outstanding School by Ofsted as well designated as a High Performing Specialist School.
“This is testament to the hard work of the students and staff, coupled with the support of parents and governors.”
Moulsham High School and St John Payne Catholic Comprehensive School both scored higher than the local authority average for GCSE attainment, but their performance had slipped from last year’s results.
Post 16 qualifications were also good with the Sandon School, St John Payne School, Chelmsford County High School and St Peter's Church of England and Specialist Arts College all scoring above the local authority average.
Jo Wincott, headteacher at the Sandon School, said: “We were delighted with the results as they were some of the highest in the history of the school.
“They reflect the hard work of the students and teachers.”
