A SCHOOL has lost its long running battle to stay open.

The Chetwood School, in Gandalfs Ride, South Woodham Ferrers, should close according to the independent schools adjudicator June Brown, who made her on Thursday August 7.

The primary school is to close from August 31, 2009, remaining open for one more school year.

Sharon Hutton-Mayson, chair of the school's governors, said she was disappointed by the decision, but was “completely committed” to making sure children who had to leave Chetwood received the school's same level of education.

The school had appealed to the schools ajudicator, after Essex County Council voted to close it, at a cabinet meeting in April this year.
