A SUBWAY in Chelmsford town centre has been closed to the public after a man suffered serious head injuries.
The subway at Moulsham Street is likely to be shut off for most of the day after a 37-year-old man was assaulted in the early hours of this morning.
The man is in a critical but stable condition in Broomfield Hospital and is to be transferred to a specialist unit at Queens Hospital, Romford.
The scene is being preserved and a police investigation is underway.
A group of men were seen leaving the area around the time of the assault.
Police are appealing for anyone that saw anything suspicious to contact them on 0300 3334444 or to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
Police are advising people to use the pedestrian crossing and not attempt to cross The Parkway at any other point.
