A FORMER Chelmsford Rugby Club player will embark on a 50 mile hike around London to raise money for a worthy cause "close to his heart".

Daniel Idundun, 20, who has recently graduated from Anglia Ruskin University, will walk the circumference of London in just one day, on Saturday July 30.

Speaking to Weekly News, the ex-North Avenue Youth Club volunteer described the reasoning behind his plight, which he expects to take almost 17 hours.

He said: "I want to raise money for Essex Boys and Girls Club because they do such incredible work.

"All throughout my life I've enjoyed giving people my time to try and brighten their lives - I like to try and bless and help other people."

Clad with one rucksack, Mr Idundun, who hopes to raise £1,000 for the cause, will set off from his home in Streatham at 4.30am and plans to return by 10.30pm.

Essex Boys and Girls Club selected Mr Idundun to tackle the hike as part of its John Muir Award.

Mr Idundun explained: "Along with other nominees I will be going to America to complete the award while spending time with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tennessee Valley.

"We aim to the develop the growing relationship between their club and ours."
