Essex police could lose employment protection
2:23pm Thursday 15th March 2012 in News
ESSEX police officers could be made redundant under new proposals.
Previously officers could not be made redundant for budgetary reasons in exchange for them giving up the right to strike, working unsociable hours at short notice and giving up other rights enjoyed by other professions.
However the Winsor report part two which examined police pay and conditions and was published yesterday has recommended this protection is withdrawn.

ah so then they could strike eh? who'd be a copper anyway, catch your man/woman/child?? and they get - almost -let off these days, SUSPENDED sentences . I'd like to do the sentencing !!
It makes sense get a degree earn £2000 less than a constable currently gets paid on starting work night work, weekends get spat at abused, sworn at, vomited on, kicked, punched, lose you human rights by not being allowed to talk about or going on strike, be restricted from expressing a political or religious view point, plus many more restrictions.
Sounds a really good career to me.

If being in the police is as bad as Brunning999 says then, just like everyone else, they have a choice...there's the door!
Why not get out and leave of your own accord and join the ranks of the millions of others who haven't got the job protection and gold plated pension provided to the police. Most won't cos they know they are onto a good thing!

See no reason why the police should be exempt from the risk of losing their jobs, due to budget cuts. They are not a "special case" and its no different for them who should face redundancy if the need arises, just like anyone else has to.

The only person who has made strike threats work is Bob Crowe. Every other union is toothless and irrelevant.
The govt will argue the police are striking and putting safety at risk to stop the govt managing staff effectively. Who would support them then?
