A DISTRAUGHT teenager is warning others to beware after his pet dog Klaus was savaged to death in a park.

Jack Foster, 16, of Cyril Child Close, Greenstead, lost his best friend Klaus after he was attacked by a staffordshire bull terrier.

His brother, Keanu Trickey, 17, was walking Klaus, a pomeranian chihuahua mix, on the park commonly called Magnolia field in Greenstead.

It was about 6.30pm on Friday and they were about to head home when the attack happened.

Keanu, a student at Colchester Institute, said: “Klaus was on a lead and I was walking away when another dog came out of nowhere, grabbed him by the belly and began shaking him.

“I tried to get him off and was getting scratched myself and the dog eventually let go.

“His owners came over and asked if our dog was ok.

“I said no and they said they wouldn’t let theirs off a lead again and would get a muzzle but it was too late.

“Klaus was screaming and yelping.

“You could tell he was really badly hurt and scared.

“I carried him home and we went to the vet.”

Klaus was owner Jack’s best friend and he is devastated at losing his one-and-a-half-year-old pet.

The former Colchester Academy pupil said: “We rushed to the vet but the dog had bitten through his ribs and lungs and he couldn’t be saved.

“I was so upset.

“How can they have a dog like this off a lead and with no muzzle.

“I don’t want revenge but I don’t want to find out another dog has died or a little child has been attacked by this dog which is out of control.

“We told the police but they said they can’t do anything unless they have the owner’s address and even then probably can’t do anything.”

The dog responsible is white staffordshire bull terrier with a black or brown patch on its face and is believed to live locally.

The teenagers have been talking to other dog owners in the area to warn them and avoid anyone else having to see their beloved pet mauled to death.
