THREE men raised more than £1,550 for charity by rowing the equivalent of six times across the English Channel.

Dave Cobb, son Sean Cobb and his daughter’s fiance Kris Dickson undertook the challenge continuously for 24 hours on a rowing machine at LWFitness4All gym at Moorside, Colchester.

The challenge was in aid of the British Lung Foundation.

The team reached their target distance of 204km by 5.45am the following morning, but rowed until noon, completing 268.5km.

Engineer Dave, 48, from Colchester, said: “We are really glad we did it and it is a nice amount of money for the British Lung Foundation, which was the whole point of it.”

Mr Cobb thanked gym owner and trainer Lee Watts for supporting the event.

The team decided to raise money for the charity after Mr Cobb’s father, Tony, died from pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease, last August.
