BRENTWOOD theatre is set to open its doors to the public once again after six months of intense building work.

The grand reopening will take place next Tuesday (November 4) when Brentwood Operatic Society’s Youth Theatre group (BOSSY) perform their production of Fame.

The campaign to raise funds to refurbish the theatre and improve facilities, was launched three years ago.

It gained support from the community and high profile names including Brentwood born actor, Stephen Moyer.

Theatre Manager, Mark Reed said: "It is an absolute delight to finally get to this stage. I would like to thank everyone for their dedicated support and hard work throughout the process.

"Without the funding, we would most likely have had to close our doors permanently.

"But here we are on the eve of the reopening and we are confident it will be an amazing night."

With nearly £300,000 spent on the new extension, actors will now have dressing rooms and associated facilities, with proper connected access to the backstage area.

Audrey Longman, the Theatre’s Chairperson has been associated with the theatre project for 30 years.

She said: "This is so exciting. To have, at last, proper dressing rooms with a safe backstage access is something we have dreamed of for years.

"At last it is happening."

A formal opening ceremony which promises to be star-studded is planned for January to allow the staff and volunteers to concentrate on the huge Christmas production of Fantastic Mr Fox which opens on 1 December.
