PIRATE radio is coming to Broomfield Hospital.

To launch the new service a group of volunteers from Hospital Radio Chelmsford – dressed as pirates – will be visiting the wards on Saturday.

The show, entitled Pirate Hospital Radio, will commemorate the dedication of those who risked everything to bring popular music to the masses during the Sixties.

Phil Meacham, station manager at Hospital Radio Chelmsford, explained: “Although highly unpopular with the authorities at the time, pirate radio really was the birth of music radio, and helped shape the entire future of the music we hear today. “Pirate Hospital Radio takes us back in time and celebrates how and where it all started, and to have our very own Captain John Barker at the helm will add more than a bit of pirate nostalgia.”

Pirate Hospital Radio will be presented every Sunday, between 11am and noon, live on Hospital Radio Chelmsford.
