THE county's fire service believes it coped well during a three-hour strike by a number of its firefighters at the weekend.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) went on strike between 9pm and midnight on Saturday.

During that time, working firefighters were called to a total of six incidents, including an elderly person who had fallen into a bath.

Dave Bill, assistant chief fire officer, said "Our resilience arrangements have worked extremely well and have been in place throughout the three hour strike period.

"The service received a dozen calls in total, six were to false alarms and automatic fire alarms, and the other six were to incidents fire crews attended."

Normal operations resumed at midnight when FBU members returned to work.
