A KEEN fisherman died after drowning in the lake where he had spent the night fishing.

Luke Bampton tragically died on April 22 at the Three Lakes Angling Club in Boreham.

An inquest into the 27-year-old's death was held on August 31 at New Bridge House in Chelmsford.

Caroline Beasley-Murray, Essex and Thurrock coroner, said Mr Bampton had suffered with epilepsy since September 2010 and the condition may have been a factor in his death.

She said: "We will never quite know for certain if he did suffer a seizure or not.
"A post mortem was held at Broomfield Hospital and the main cause of death was concluded as drowning."

Mr Bampton, who lived with his parents in Broomfield, was found by his girlfriend Jo-Anne Hunt in the water where he had been fishing.

She had gone to pick him up as he had been fishing since the previous day.

Mrs Beasley-Murrary said: "This was a sudden, unexpected and tragic death.
"Epilepsy may have been a contributing factor but it was not the main cause of death - that was that he ended up in the water.
"Sadly we will never know how that came to be."

She recorded a verdict of accidental death.
